> DOCUMENTATION 2013

In addition to the film recording of Khora, the project documentation provides key background information on the origins of the choreographies and on contemporary dance in Frankfurt am Main in the 1990s.

Stadttheater Giessen:
The Horta Project – SOAP Recreation

An ensemble that became a benchmark for the German dance scene emerged at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt in the 1990s: Rui Horta’s SOAP company. Within just a few years, Horta’s unique choreographic style went from being an insider tip to a cult brand in contemporary dance, and the company enjoyed international success.

Two decades later, Tanzcompagnie Gießen returned two works from this period – Ordinary Events (1991) and Khora (1996) – to the stage as part of TANZFONDS ERBE.

Horta took charge of restaging his pieces in Gießen himself, supported by one of his former dancers, Dietmar Janeck.

In December 2013, Stadttheater Gießen arranged for the entire dance company to spend a rehearsal week at Rui Horta’s choreographic centre in Portugal where, under his direction, steps and technique were trained and consolidated.
