Ballett Koblenz now has two key choreographies by Uwe Scholz – Dans la Marche and Die 1000 Grüße – in its repertoire. Scholz's very musically choreographed, symphonic ballets, in which he makes the lake scenes visible via dancers’ bodies, are still included in the repertoires of many important ballet companies today.
In addition to large-scale ballets, Scholz also created works for smaller groups of dancers, pieces that are in no way less expressive than the larger works, which is why Steffen Fuchs, who himself danced as a soloist for Scholz in Leipzig, and who is today director of Ballett Koblenz, chose to bring two of them back to the stage: Die 1000 Grüße explores the emotional depths and levity of Robert Schumann’s songbook, and Dans la Marche, with music of the same name by Udo Zimmermann, questions the impact of absolute control on the human psyche.
In addition to these two reconstructions, Fuchs also re-interpreted one of Scholz’s most important choreographies: Sergei Rachmaninow Suite für zwei Klavier, Nr. 2.

Steffen Fuchs
Born in Halle/Saale in 1974, Steffen Fuchs has been ballet director and choreographer at Theater Koblenz since the 2011/12 season. His completed his ballet training from 1984-1992 at the Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin. He danced as a soloist at Leipzig Ballet from 1992-2002. He was a guest dancer at Graz Opera, Mainfrankentheater Würzburg and Staatstheater Cottbus. His first choreographic works in 1998 were followed by pieces for Leipzig Ballet, the Palucca Schule Dresden, Svenska Balettskolan Göteborg (Sweden), TANZPLAN Dresden, festivals in Leipzig, Bonn, Gera, Amsterdam, Würzburg und Durham, North Carolina, as well as theatres in Gera, Cottbus und Nordhausen. In order to expand his choreographic knowledge, he started a postgraduate course at the Palucca Schule Dresden in 2006 and ended it in 2010 as a Master Student for Choreography “with distinction”. In 2007, he won a scholarship as International Choreographer in Residence for the AMERICAN DANCE FESTIVAL at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
