Oral history is an historical-scientific method in which interviews with contemporary witnesses are recorded. The choreographer, dancer and Laban Movement Analyst Prof. Dr. Jeff Friedman is the founder of Legacy, an oral history project for the San Francisco, California dance communities since 1988, archived at the San Francisco Museum of Performance & Design. The archive has more than 100 interviews with dancers, choreographers and dance creators. In an interview with TANZFONDS, Prof. Dr. Friedman talks about the potential of first-person contemporary witnesses accounts for the archiving and transfer of dance knowledge.
