THE PRACTICE OF MODERN DANCE IN GERMANY INSCRIBED IN THE REPRESENTATIVE LIST OF THE INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY
On 30th November 2022, the practice of Modern Dance in Germany was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. UNESCO acknowledges Modern Dance as a multifaceted practice of cultural activity which has fundamentally changed stage and dance training. The 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is taking place in Marocco's capital, Rabat, until 3rd December 2022.
Ambassador Peter Reuss, Permanent Delegate of Germany to UNESCO, declared: “Modern Dance belongs to the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as of today. It shows that UNESCO has understood the artistic and social importance of this cultural practice which has its origins in the expressive dance of the early 20th century and in the reform movement of the Monte Verità. UNESCO's recognition will increase the visibility and radiance of Modern Dance in Germany and on a worldwide scale.”
