Schauspielhaus Bochum / Susanne Linke:
Ruhr-Ort

Susanne Linke created her legendary dance-theatre piece Ruhr-Ort, a choreography based on men’s work in steel plants and mines, in 1991. Physical exhaustion became dance and revealed images of the world of work in the Ruhr region of old. In 2014, Linke restaged Ruhr-Ort with dancers from the Renegade ensemble. The result brought street art and dance theatre, the old and the new Ruhr region, and dance history and contemporary urban art together.

In the project documentation (see above), Linke and Thomas Stich – a dancer and actor in the original production of Ruhr-Ort – discuss the origins of the piece as well as its premiere in 1991. In addition, a video offers insights into the restaged version featuring the young Renegade ensemble dancers.
