FUNDING TO PROMOTE AN ARTISTIC APPROACH
TO 20th CENTURY DANCE

WHAT IS TANZFONDS.DE?

Tanzfonds.de is the website dedicated to two funds initiated by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation), namely Tanzfonds Erbe (Dance Heritage Fund) and Tanzfonds Partner (Dance Partner Fund). DIEHL+RITTER is the non-profit agency managing the funds. Although Tanzfonds Partner – a fund for partnerships between schools and dance institutions – expired in 2014, Tanzfonds Erbe has been extended to 2018. Information about the application procedure, documentary videos on previous and current Tanzfonds projects as well as additional contributions on the theme of dance heritage can all be found at tanzfonds.de.

Tierforme/l/n – project documentation

The choreographer, visual artist and author Simone Forti, who was born in Florence in 1935 and grew up in the USA, is a central protagonist in American post-modern dance. As co-founder of the legendary Judson Church Dance Theater Forti was continuously looking for her way between and with different forms of artistic expression. The artist has offered to convey her 1968 piece Sleep Walkers (aka Zoo Mantras), a signature piece of animal choreography, to the Berlin-based choreographer Martin Nachbar. The project documentation offers insights into the rehearsal work for the reproduction of Zoo Mantras with Simone Forti and also provides information about the supplementary programme for the Tierforme/l/n project.

SPECIAL FOCUS: DANCE AND COPYRIGHT

Copyright is an unavoidable aspect of dealing with dance heritage. At the same time, dance is largely omitted from public debates on copyright issues. In addition to contributions to debates, we provide useful tools for dance artists.

Project documentation – Bautzner Straße 107, past present future

With its first major project, the Villa Wigman für TANZ (Villa Wigman for Dance) association is taking another step on the way to preserving the former Wigman School in Dresden as a historico-cultural location as well as a rehearsal, production and transfer centre for independent contemporary dance. There will be performances, workshops, lectures, exhibitions and interventions in urban spaces in Dresden from June 2017 to July 2018 to create public awareness of Mary Wigman’s legacy as a dance artist. The film documentation has been compiled by the project itself and offers an initial insight into the activities that have taken place to date.

DANCE ARCHIVES AROUND THE WORLD

An overview of archives and libraries that are either dedicated to dance or cover dance within their remit. Some of the material can be accessed online.

DRAWINGS FROM THE DANCE CONGRESS

A graphic recording team commissioned by TANZFONDS asked Dance Congress 2013 participants about their own dance heritage. Here, we publish the collection of personal, funny, sad and poetic drawings for your own use.
